we are having another baby! yea! Little Peanut is growing strong, almost 19 weeks and we are all super excited! Had our midway ultrasound on Friday, and he/she is growing perfectly! only 21 or so more weeks!!

Texas Alliance for Life dinner...

A couple weeks ago, we went to the Texas Alliance for Life benefit dinner. I love going, because I worked there, and for me, it is my social event of the season! Everyone all dressed up, no kids, good food and a great speaker!

This year it was Lila Rose of Live Action. She is just 23, but she spoke of going into Planned Parenthood (starting when she was just 18) and discovering how they cover up abuse, rape, human trafficking, law violation and more.

It was interesting for the audience to hear. We all know that abortion kills babies, and we are trying to save them. But she and her group have uncovered how PP carefully negotiates around the laws, bypassing that which protects our young women. I feel she is taking the pro-life movement to the next level, and was excited to hear her talk.

1st day of school!

Nate had is first day of school yesterday. He was in tears when I left, but when a couple friends walked by his room a few minutes later and they said he was fine. The teacher (Mrs. Beth) said he did good, not great. Room for improvement! Every so often, she said he would ask when I was coming, but he did well otherwise.

When I asked Nate what he did, he said "boo hoo" (he cried). He also said he went to the playground (which seemed to be his favorite). When I asked him if he wanted to go back, he said "yes". He also sang me the cleanup song, and a few other things that I couldn't decipher.

Mrs. Beth said he never took off his glasses, and only quickly showed her his eyes!

Hopefully tomorrow will go better...I don't think I'll be crying in my car again.

So, I've been doing updates on Nate...but how about me? This year I feel I was productive (other than raising a 2 year old). Here are some highlights:

month-long vacation with Ry and Nate to Florida and Nate's first trip to Disney. We even snuck in our first multi-day away from Nate, and he did great! loved loved loved all the time with my boys!
have become good at priest's 25th anniversary parties - helped coordinate one for our pastor in September and Fr. Mike in July. And now planning our parish's 25th anniversary in January!
finally working on getting in shape - started Stroller Strides in October. Have loved meeting all the great women and their kiddos...and I feel myself getting stronger!
dealt in with break-in #2. Sadness that people feel that they need our stuff...but glad to have Ryan here to protect us and feel secure!!
handled with grace Ry's forced vacation, i.e. layoff. Only lasted 2 months, and I feel that I did a great job managing the finances I am in charge of, and helped Ryan transition to working from home.
Created a new soul, now in heaven. One day we will meet you little Oliver Walter.
Welcomed Justin and Danielle back into our home for almost 3 months! While waiting for their house to be built they have lived this summer in our guest room. Nate has enjoyed the extra attention and I have loved having them here to chat with!
Took a little vacation with my mom and Nate to set-up Tessa in her new house. Had some wonderful mom and sister time!! Enjoyed having her here in Austin for 2 whole years! It was great!!
Had a great time at our first ever family reunion on my mom's side. Wonderful to see Nate interact with his cousins, and nice to not have to cook for a week!
And the day before my birthday...sent in the check...and paid off the house! Best gift Ry could ever have given me!

Okay...a little overdue...

Highlights:

most changed - talking! getting quite a vocabulary!!

I think the most significant is his communication. Nate can really tell us what he wants, although some "baby talk" sometimes gets mixed in. He also sings songs, and loves to dance and music. Fortunately, he likes the same music as mom, so I'm not getting tired of baby songs...

He's also become quite independent. I can send him upstairs to get something, or he can find my matching shoes in the closet. He also likes to help unload the dishwasher (I put him in charge of the silverware) and help set the table. And he rarely forgets to serve Charlie his dinner.

Nate has gotten quite used to Dad being at home. With the sabbatical in October and 2 months off in January and February, he has had lots of time with Dad. He loves it, and loves helping his Dad with all the projects around the house (you should see him with his little mallet).

Well, my little toddler is growing up into a little man...sometimes I just can't believe he is the same one! But then, when he rubs my tummy...I know! And here are some of my favorite pics...one from each month!

Okay, I realized I've forgotten to do my quarterly posts. Well, they have been on my to-do list, but it gets long, and I forget...and well, then it doesn't get done.

So, here is an update on today. This weekend Nate turned 3! We had a great birthday going on a mini train, lunch at Chuy's (a family favorite, and Nate love the creamy jalapeno), presents, and cupcakes! And Nana and Papa were here to celebrate with us! I think everyone had a great time.

And it was a very Cars birthday - sheets, blankets, pillows, playmat and cars...big boy room redo pics coming soon! And his first digital camera too!

the past 3 months...

This past quarter. It has been an emotional roller coaster.

First, our house was broken into (again), right before Christmas. And the only thing taken - my jewelry box. Yea, there was some random stuff in there but I will miss my grandmother's bracelet and the first necklace Ryan ever gave me. And the unease of someone being in our house. again!

Second, we returned back from Christmas and New Year's, to find out that they are closing Ryan's office. Almost everyone was laid off. Kind of a blessing in disguise, since it forced him to look for better opportunities. But what were we going to do? How long would our savings last? How do you file for unemployment? I know Ryan would do everything in his power to take care of us, and this gave him time to work on his iphone app (which is super cool!).

Third, Ryan was able to secure a job within 6 weeks. He actually had several offers. And now he gets to work from home. The only bummer is we never took time for a vacation, and now that he will start working, it will be a while until we get away....

Fourth, right before Ryan started, we found out we were pregnant. Pregnancy #8 for us! I couldn't believe it! It was such a surprise. And I felt uber pregnant - nauseous, cravings, etc. And out best friends were just a week behind us. My prayer had always been that we could be pregnant together. And now we are! It was amazing. My levels increased and all looked good.

Fifth, all looked good until my first ultrasound this week. The baby wasn't as big as he/she was supposed to be. Then I had my HCG (pregnancy hormone) levels checked. They are decreasing. I have cried all week. Just soo sad. Sad that my dream of being pregnant with Danielle is over. Sad that we are loosing our 7th baby. People say to not give up hope. There are miracles. But I just don't feel pregnant anymore. Why me? Why me AGAIN?

So there it is. Our emotionally crazy last 3 months. And I don't know how to process this. I just want to get away, have a break. But unfortunately, no vacation time for us for awhile. And I feel real guilty going on my own.

Please say a little prayer for me and for our family. Sometimes I feel it is too much to bear, but I can. And I have to.

I have recently found Law & Order: UK. Really! It is awesome, although I have to watch with tivo, since i usually have to repeat what they are saying (I'm not up on my British English).

Since I have seen probably every episode of Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: LA, and most of Law & Order: SVU.

Now I can watch NEW episodes, with wigs!!

Christmas part 2 and New Year's!

For our 2nd Christmas, we went and spent a few days with Nana and Papa. We had lots of fun there too!

Then for New Year's, tia Lorena, tio Bert, Sebastian and Arianna came to visit. The boys had oh so much fun together! Laughing and playing so well together! And it was great to meet Arianna in person!

my life changed. I had 2 brothers, who were kinda annoying. And then, I heard my grandmother say "kishline" (sorry, don't know how to spell in Hungarian) over the phone. And then I knew, I had a sister!

I was soo excited!! We were instantly close. I took her to the park, took her babysitting with me, listened to music and played with my bows and make-up.

And then, when she was 7, I moved away. I think being apart from her was one of the hardest parts.

But, we have stayed close, despite the 10 year age difference. When I got engaged, I just had to call her and she knew she was the maid of honor (at 15). And when Nate was born, there was no question that she would be his godmother.

I am lucky to have you live with us for a year, and get to spend our sister nights and dinners with you now!

Tessa, I love you! You are the best sister and friend!! Happy, Happy Birthday!!

Texas Alliance for Life dinner

Last month we hosted a table at the Texas Alliance for Life dinner (where I used to work). We had a wonderful time celebrating life with all our guests, and was privileged to hear the wonderful conversion of Abby Johnson, a former planned parenthood director turned pro-life advocate! She was amazing!!

Vacation Part 3

Okay, we have been back for over a month...time to finish the vacation posts!

For the 3rd leg of our trip, we stayed at Ryan's uncle's vacation home in Naples, Florida. We had fun going to the winter estates of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, Naples zoo, Corkscrew swamp, beach, Everglades National Forest (and surrounding areas) and Ave Maria University. And on our way home, we stopped in Mobile and saw the USS Alabama and USS Drum. Seriously, lots of fun time together as a family!!

Well, my little brother (he hates it when I call him that), turned 32 yesterday. I don't remember much when he was a baby, just that I got my little baby Suzi the day after he was born. I remember changing her diapers and nursing her, just like mom did to Stephen!

Vacation part 2

For the 2nd part of our vacation, we drove to Florida! What a great trip! We made it to Pensacola in one day, and then to Disney the next! Here are a few of our favorite photos of Disney!! By the end of the trip Nate knew who Mickey was, and how to quickly pose for a picture! We were also blessed to spend time with my cousin Monica who is working there this fall, and the newlyweds Darrell and Gwenn, who finished their honeymoon with a couple days in Disney! We did tons of rides, and Nate's favorite was the Buzz Lightyear spin. Can't wait to go back!!

Vacation Part 1

Sorry for the hiatus on the blog...we've been on vacation! Yes, after 10 years with his company, Ryan got a 4 week sabbatical. We used it well, with a vacation for just me and Ry, a long driving trip, Disney World and time spent at home catching up on projects.

Part 1 - the wedding!
Ryan's high school friend Darrell and his bride Gwenn got married in upper Michigan. We flew up there and had 4 nights away from Nate (and he had a great vacay with Nana and Papa). Unfortunately, it was really rainy and windy, but we still had a fun time with our friends. In addition to being lectors, I was able to put my event planner hat and help with some last minute wedding planner duties!

Well, my little baby is turning into a little man! These past 3 months have been filled with activity.

First, we celebrated Nate's birthday with this great aunts, uncles and grandparents in Pennsylvania. We had a good time getting away from the Texas heat and having fun with everyone. Then was his dog days of summer birthday party!

We've also gone to 2 baseball games (saw Msgr. Mike throw the first pitch), lots of playdates with friends, going to the pool, TCU scrimmage, music concert, Dave and Buster's (he loved the racing game), first trip on a boat (thanks uncle Justin and aunt Danielle), Mommy's birthday and lots of time with the family and friends (especially those from out of town like Mrs. Kulle, aunt Amy and the Bratten's)!

My favorite phrase is "luv you". And Nate knows exactly when to do it! Especially if he has been a little naughty, or just trying to make mommy happy. He's also a good echo, for whatever you are saying! He's been enjoying watching Clifford ("doggie") and Phineas and Furb (I think Ry may like it more than him).

Nate also loves playing with his cars. He now has 4 Lightening McQueen's and loves them all. He's getting good playing with cars - making the sounds and all. He also loves playing with his sports balls. Just kicking the ball around is lots of fun. I may have watched a little too much World Cup this year...

Nate also also found out that he likes 2 musical instruments - the guitar and piano. I see some classes in his future...

We have said a few goodbye's this quarter - Tessa neni moved out in July and our good neighbors and friends next door moved out in September.

Well, our good friends moved out next door and I got to chat with the new ones this weekend. I told them how much Nate loved playing with the former owners toys, especially the "blue lightening mcqueen". They don't have kids yet, but said, "I guess we will have to buy one so he can have one here".

Last week we celebrated 25 years of priestly service of our pastor, Fr. Isidore. I helped with the planning and we had a great time! I came on a little late, but it was a fun time organizing an event again and meeting many new people at our church. I was happy to be done (the reason for the wine in my hand...:-) It was a fun evening of memories of Fr. Isidore, fellowship, dancing, and a couple glasses of wine). For Nate's birthday, in lieu of gifts, we got donations for a local dog rescue called Blue Dog Rescue. It has taken a couple months, but we finally took the items to the puppies! Thanks to everyone who gave such great gifts. Nate sure had fun sharing the loot!

I don't know how working moms do it! Or stay at home working ones!

About 4 weeks ago I found out that our priest was having his 25th anniversary celebration of his priesthood. I offered to assist and literally have been helping a couple to several hours a day! Really! All those little details to make it look flawless don't come easy.

And it has made me wonder how moms who work do it. These past couple weeks I have been "too tired" and we have gone out to eat or just scrambled on what to eat. I haven't done a real housecleaning and Nate may have watched a little to much tv.

I'm glad my "working life" is coming to an end tonight. I don't know if I could handle it anymore!

Thank you Ryan that I do not have to do this every day! Maybe I needed this to help drill into myself how blessed I am to run errands with Nate, go grocery shopping, clean the house and just play!

I has been a nice birthday week! My birthday was lots of fun - free coffee at Starbucks, lunch and playdate with the K's, followed by date night. Too bad the place I wanted to go was closed for vacation - guess we get to go back!

Nate has been getting really good at saying his name. "Nate, Nate" whenever he wants something or wants to keep something.

Found out this week I may have TMJ. ugh! Right now I'm just on very nice painkillers. Had the best sleep last night in a long time.

Visited the pool today with Nate and our friends the Rose's. 2 mommas and 5 kiddos. oh my! And my son only wanted to go over and go down the slide. Who wants to be in the kiddie side when there are slides to ride! Telling him he's not big enough is not a sufficient answer!

I've decided to take a little step back from my commitments. I seem to over schedule, and not really get to focus time just being a wife and mother. I think at this point, I'm just wanting things to be a little more quiet and a little less scheduled.

Last Saturday we continued our tradition of family movie night. We have not done it in awhile, but it was fun to pop some popcorn and watch Finding Nemo. Any suggestions for a movie for our next movie night?

After trying to avoid it for awhile, I have realized the only way I can stay healthy is by incorporating exercise in my routine. I am the queen of excuses, but good eating will only get me so far. Any suggestions on ways to incorporate exercise that doesn't feel like working out?

Let's just say that getting Nate to eat has been a bit challenging. So, after he just nibbled at his lunch, I gave a piece of pepperoni to Charlie the dog (he loved it). Nate proceeded to finish the pepperoni. And when Nate didn't want any roast beef, I gave Charlie a piece, and Nate finished the rest of the plate.

Who knew all I needed was a little puppy pressure from Charlie...

Well, this past weekend my little sister moved out. She moved in Memorial Day 2009, hoping to stay the summer. Then she got her AmeriCorps job, and we were lucky to have her 11 more months.

These past 14 months flew by! It was wonderful having her in our home. I had not lived with her more than a couple weeks since she was 7 and I was 17 and off to college.

She was a great housemate! I was happy to have the help cleaning the kitchen, making dinner, playing with Nate and giving Nate baths! She also had fun taking Nate and Charlie to the dog park and taking Nate to the pool. Tessa has a keen knack for knowing when I really needed the help, or some time alone to talk with Ry. And Nate has truly enjoyed all the love and attention his neni has given him.

I really loved getting to know the woman my sister has become. You are my best friend Tess and I am honored that you lived with us! It was a very special time for all of us! And I am super happy you still live in Austin!!

Nate pointed at my chest yesterday, realizing that my chest looked different than his. I told him that was where milk came. For babies. And then he asked "juice?" No son, just milk. We can only pray that the Lord will give you a little brother or sister and momma can be a milk machine again!

Nate is turning 14 (in dog years, that is)!

So come join us for some puppy chow and a howlin' good time. We'll frolic in the sun, and it's sure to be a pawfect day and some doggone fun. Bring those swimsuits for a dip in the puppy pool and a run through the sprinklers.

In lieu of gifts, you are welcome to bring a donation for the Blue Dog Rescue of Round Rock . They need items like gift cards to Petco, Petsmart, and Tomlinson's, puppy food, collars, leashes, dog beds and the like.

We had a great time, from the dog prints in front of the door, puppy pools out back, and doggie bags to take home! We also have a pile of goodies to take to the Blue Dog Rescue this week.

2 years old!!

My little boy is 2 years old! I can't believe it!! This year has flown by. I guess that is something I will probably say every year. It has been a great year - from walking to talking!

This last month Nate has really been talking! He doesn't like to be left behind, saying "me, me" whenever someone leaves the room or goes upstairs. He repeats what you say, and I'm surprised what words he knows - he pointed and said "tractor" last week. We are working on colors, right now most things are yellow and green, although he can say red and blue. He still does some sign language, but the verbal is taking precedence.

He loves the sink - always willing to wash dishes, or just play with the water. And has navigated out of his crib, so he's now in his toddler bed. We also found a place nearby with free fruit - peaches, plums and pears! so we picked a bit, and ate a few too! Racing the car around the house is lots of fun - and needs good send offs - "ready, set, GO!!!".

He has a full mouth of teeth - time to go to the dentist! He's also learning to share and "mine" has become a new word for him. We have had fun going taking fieldtrips (to Houston and the fire station), playdates with friends, and just having a good time!

I am honored that God gave me this son to raise! How thankful I am to be his momma!

Today, when Nate saw a picture of himself, he said "Dent". I asked him who "Dent" was and he pointed at himself. I am totally excited that he is finally recognizing himself in pictures!!

And then a few hours later I asked him again, and he said something that really sounded like Nate. yea!! At least he isn't saying "2", because I think I have been asking him a few too many times how old will he be!

I organized a successful field trip for our Mornings with Mommy group at our church - our local fire station. My term as co-leader is coming to an end this month and it has been lots of fun helping other moms in the parish grow in their faith life and in their vocation as wives and mothers.

In addition to learning how to climb out of his crib (which has now been converted to a toddler bed), Nate had a face-first splash in the baby pool. I was there to sweep him right up and he went back into the water like nothing happened.

I booked our tickets to go up to PA in a couple weeks! Nate will spend his 2nd birthday surrounded by his great grandparents, grandparents and great aunts and uncles. Hopefully it will be a little cooler too!

The garden is doing well. I'm glad I like cucumbers, there seems to be one ready every day! The tomatoes are doing great too, but I think something got to our squash - all the plants have died. I did plant some watermelon, so that has begun to sprout. And it looks like we can harvest our garlic any day!

Found that an evening just to chat with the girls, dessert and a bottle of wine can really refresh you!

Last weekend I helped throw a girly baby sprinkle for my good friend Lorena. We had a sprinkle because this was for baby #2 which is set to arrive in July. The food was all red, pink and white, and we played a couple simple games - a trivia game and wrote notes on diapers (for those late night diaper changes). For food we had caprese salad, crab dip, watermelon and cucumber salad, cheese and crackers and chocolate covered strawberries.

Today I put Nate down for a nap. I went into the office and heard a thump. I stepped out of the office and found Nate at the top of the stairs. He climbed out of his bed, opened his door and went looking for me. And when I put him in his bed and asked him to show me, he easily demonstrated how he climbed over the side.

We didn't have time tonight, but tomorrow we will be converting Nate's crib to a toddler bed. And this just a couple weeks before his birthday! Momma's not ready for Nate to grow up this fast!!

2 is around the corner! But this month is not without its accomplishments: opening doors (we now have a few door locks), climbing up the bar stools (which now are placed on the pool table), using a pillow by the ottoman as a ramp, being a great repeater, loves to play puppy and baby, teeth are filling in, first haircut and made it for his first trip to the pool this season!

Nate's favorite word is slide. Love to say it! His favorite toys have been a small, plastic Bailey's bottle (we got some looks at the store), drinking out of mom's Starbucks cup, and playing with this Woody and Buzz Lightyear men (they are not dolls).

I also love it when he says something, and I repeat it. When I finally get it right, he says "yeah". Perfect!

We've been able to see the Biscuit Brothers, have visits from friends (the Felderhoff's) and family (Nana, Papa, Mama, Grandpa, and Monica neni), a few birthday parties, playdates and a picnic!

Nate the Walker!!

Prior to being a stay-at-home momma, I worked for an awesome pro-life group here in Austin called Texas Alliance for Life. Nate (or Pumpkin, since he wasn't born yet) participated in 2008, and we are participating again this year in their Walk for Life. I worked there for 2 1/2 years, and totally believe that they are doing a great job supporting and protecting life here in Texas and the entire United States.

This year Nate will be walking at the 16th Annual Texas Alliance for Life Walk 2010 on June 19 at The Quarries in Austin. We have participated in the Walk for the past 3 years and have raised over $2200 during that time. This year our goal is to raise over $1000! I hope you can help us!!

We had a great weekend for Memorial Day - 2 birthdays and a picnic. Ryan is happy I haven't over scheduled this weekend!

After almost 15 years dealing with my chronic congestion, I finally went to see an ear-nose-throat doctor who really could help! I went yesterday and am already breathing through my nose (seriously, quite a feat for me). My nasal voice may be going away...yea!

Tessa took Nate for his first trip to the pool on Monday. After a crazy weekend, we needed a break and she happily took care of him. Now he keeps asking "Swimming, swimming".

Nate has made quite a few feats this week - opening doors (and closing them, like him in the pantry), climbing up the stools by the island, and moving a chair to get to the sink. Nothing seems to be off limits!

and on our way to 2! This past month was a bit unusual for us - Nate had pink-eye, then a double ear infection. Right after getting well we headed up to PA for great-grandpa D's funeral. We did have a few road trips too - strawberry picking in Marble Falls, lunch with tia Lorena in Brenham, Monica neni getting her ring in Aggieland and visiting friends and a wedding in Dallas.

Speaking wise, his biggest change is putting 2 words together - daddy shoes, nana car, etc. He's also doing great at seeing Nana and Papa's cars on the road (although most SUV's look like a Tahoe to him). But he has figured out the difference between neni's silver civic and other silver cars! He's also totally in love with seeing trucks, motorcycles and buses. Each time he sees one it is like he's never seen one before!

Chores: helping unload dishwasher, set table, bring in groceries, unload and load washer and dryers, and feeding Charlie.

Not as many new words this month - door, gumpa (grandpa), truck, ba-berry (strawberry), up, yeah. He did though start to speak pig Klingon, as Ry calls it - ending each word with "K" - mommy-k, nana-k, daddy-k. I think it was because he favorite word is truck!

Last night I think I had the best meal in my entire life. Really. This year, our anniversary just snuck up on Ry and me. So, we decided just to do it big for our dinner. And we did! We went to Wink and had their 5 course tasting menu. This is such a cool restaurant - they buy all their food locally, and you can find which ones on their menu.

I can't decide which of the 5 courses I liked the best. We were a little nervous about the steak tartare, but I think that ended up to be Ry's favorite. Each course was beautiful to look at and scrumptious to eat. I made Ry promise that he would take me back for our 9th anniversary!

Sorry, no pictures. We just sat, ate, and enjoyed. I think the meal easily took us over 2 hours to eat. And we loved each and every minute of it! They even gave us a signed menu to take home (by all the chefs) and typed in the menu was "Happy Anniversary Alexis and Ryan". What a great touch!!

I did find a coupon on restaurant.com. If you use the code "meal" you can get a $25 gift certificate for $2. It did buy us a couple glasses of wine...

(Kauai on our honeymoon...what young kids we were)

I married my best friend. The best friend I have ever had. I thought it took forever for him to ask me (3 1/2 years), but now we have been married twice over!

Our wedding day was special, surrounded by friends and family. I don't think, though, I would say it was the best day of my life. My best day is tomorrow, knowing that I have a wonderful man to share it with.

Thank you Ryan for asking me to marry you. I am proud to be your wife, best friend, and mother to your children!

I joined a book club this week and totally love it! We are reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and I can't seem to put the book down! It is all about eating locally, in season foods. I'm having fun trying to find new places to get our food, and new ways to prepare them. The girls in the club have been such a blessing and wealth of knowledge and ideas.

Whenever Ry goes out with his best friend, I call it a man-date. I went on a girly-date last night with a really good friend. Just time to chat and eat at La Madeleine (good girly place). It was fun to take the time and just reconnect.

Last night my dad stopped by, on his way driving from Ft. Worth to Corpus. Nate just loved having his Gum-pa around! He couldn't stop performing all around!!

I was able to give a talk this week about Natural Family Planning. Since I stopped teaching about 2 years ago, I had to do a little homework to get prepared. I remember how much it meant to me to teach people about their fertility and share with them how beautiful the Catholic Church looks at it. Hopefully I opened a few eyes and planted a few seeds...

A couple weeks ago my parents came for a visit. We headed out to Marble Falls and went strawberry (or ba-berry as Nate calls it) picking at Sweet Berry Farm! It was great! We finished it off with some locally made ice cream and then went to the Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls for lunch. We may have to head back next month for the blackberry picking....

This past Friday night, great grandpa Dobson passed from this world. He was a kind man, and we are lucky that Nate was able to meet him last year. He will be greatly missed.

One word can describe this month - my son is a talker! yea!! He is communicating and we love it! He's also doing well on his chores - unloading and loading the washer and dryer, unloading the dishwasher, bringing in the groceries, and taking his wet diapers to the trash. He also loves to help me sweep the floor, although he likes to spread my dirt piles around.

We have had fun with friends, dinners out, visited with family and went to a wedding. Nana had a birthday too! I even climbed to the top of the chick-fil-a playground and went down the slide. twice! We've been also having fun skyping with family! And Nate loves to amaze us by walking backward!! We've enjoyed march madness - any ball game Nate likes (even european soccer!).

I am happy that I am able to do this again! Last week being holy week, and both my boys sick - it was a doozy! Didn't really have any time alone...

Nate was sick this week. And more than ever I truly feel that I'm living the vocation God wants for me. Even though it was hard, I was happy to sit beside my son, and hold him all day long. I didn't have to worry about bills, chores, or work. That was my job! I married a great man who gives me the opportunity to do this. Thank you Ryan!

We finally purchased the plants for our backyard and actually agreed on a plan. Nana and I planted about half today and the rest will hopefully get done this weekend.

I've been having fun trying to cook the new veggies I got in my farmhouse bushel. The lettuce and carrots weren't too hard - but beets and turnip greens! I think they turned out pretty good, though.

I was able to have some adult interaction this week to at the TAL lunch. I heard a great speaker talk about using adult stem cells in spine surgeries to make them better. amazing! And time with friends and former co-workers made it extra nice!

I've been touched in a great way this week how our friends and family have reached out and helped us during Nate and Ry's sickness these past couple weeks. We are blessed!

I finally watched Food Inc. last week. I truly feel that movie is changing my life. It has changed how I view companies, food, how we treat animals and much more. It has been all I can talk about for days now. I'm excited to go to the Round Rock Farmer's Market tomorrow and stock up on veggies, meats, and breads. Well, it seems like it...a little over 10 days ago Nate got pink-eye, so we've been on medication and all (and not seeing friends). We went up to Waco on Saturday and had to leave Sunday morning because Nate had a horrible fever (105!). Luckily our doc was open and found out he has a double ear infection! Now we are on antibiotics (again), but his fever is still present. And he just wants momma. So, off to the doc again today and he's better and I found out I wasn't giving enough motrin. Seems like the lollipop from HEB has done the trick, because he is finally down for a nap.

Hopefully Nate is on the mend. Please say a quick prayer for us.

I realized this week that the housework can wait. The laundry can wait. Some days, I just need to be there to cuddle for my son so he can get better. Thank God (and you Ry), that I have the opportunity to stay home with him so I can do this!

This year we resolved to work on the backyard! yea! We have a plan (that we had made 3 years ago), and are finally making it a reality.

Yesterday we had some great guys come and put in a new patio for us. They sure made me realize how much Spanish I have forgotten. Ry reminded me that I probably didn't learn any technical or construction terms in my classes, but I still need to practice. Look at the transformation! And I never knew laying concrete would be soo much work!! Nate and I were glued on the couch watching them all day!!

My Christmas gift...

For Christmas this past year Ryan and I exchanged 3 gifts with themes. First was practical, and Ryan got me some gorgeous earrings (which are quite practical, a girl has to look good). Second was indulgent, and Ryan gave me a Keurig personal coffee maker. I love Starbucks, but only can handle about a cup a day, so this allows me to make only a cup at home. This insert allows me to use my own coffee too! Our third gift was helpful, and Ryan made reservations for me to go to a Knife Skills class at Central Market. It was great! Last year was my first year of gardening. By the end, it was kinda crazy. You can see here how the tomato plants just took over!!

This year we decided to add another bed. Ryan and his dad built it a couple weeks ago.

For the original garden we have (from left to right): cucumbers, thyme, cilantro, basil and garlic. The new bed (in front), we have tomatoes (cherry and yellow pear), 2 rows of zucchini and one row of yellow squash. We plan to add jalepenos in the original garden by the garlic and watermelon in the front garden. Here are our first pictures from planting day last Friday.

Super Duper Date night!!

Last night Ryan planned our date. What a great job he did!!

First, we had a glass of wine at the Georgetown Winery. Our friend Fr. Will had brought us a bottle a few months ago when he came to dinner and it was great. We sat at the bar, talked with the owners (who remembered Fr. Will) and relaxed.

Then, a nice stroll around the Georgetown square. It was nice and warm (unlike today) and we looked around.

Then we had dinner at a little local Italian restaurant, Tony and Luigi's. Yummy! We had another glass of wine and a delicious dinner, serenaded by a man doing Frank Sinatra songs. Could it get more perfect? Yes, we had the Barcelona chocolate cake which was delicious!!

This year for Lent I've been trying to do something different - try to add and item each week. I think it has been very fruitful for me. I always hear of great things others are doing, but tell myself next year you can do it. But this year I am. Things are getting quite busy - for some reason I have added daily tasks each week. I think one of the best was no tv one evening which I added last week.

We are making progress on the garden!! Ryan and his dad built me another bed last weekend, and last night we got some plants and seeds to get started!! Now to start planting this weekend.

And we have decided on a plan for the landscaping for the rest of the backyard - more bushes, trees, etc. It was something we were going to do when we moved it, and that has been 7 years ago! But, we have a plan that we both agree on - and that is the best!

Solemnity of St. Joseph

A friend sent me a facebook event titled "Solemnity of St. Joseph is on a Friday! I am eating MEAT!!" I was shocked by this event. Meat? Friday? this is Lent! What is he thinking? My friend is quite the canon scholar (he worked for the Tribunal of the Diocese and now works in Rome) and this warranted further investigation. So, I decided to search for myself. And luckily, the Aggie Catholics found a good article from a canon lawyer. To sum it up St. Joseph was a very important saint, so he got a solemnity, and that trumps Friday abstinence.

So, this Friday is date night!! We'll have to do something special (hint, hint Ryan) to celebrate the patron saint of families! And include a few extra prayers for his intercession for our family, since we can have meat and all...

Snow Day!!

On February 23rd a great snow storm hit Austin! yea!! Nate and I went out a few times, played in the snow and built a snowman. He also played with Tessa neni and Dad showed him how to throw snowballs. One of those balls made it back inside, and Nate enjoyed eating it. After he was done, all we heard was "mo". For lunch we ate on the floor by the back door and watched the snow as we had chips and queso! What a fun day!!

Our little boy is not just tottling around, it is a full on run! This month included his first overnight at Nana and Papa's and he did great (mom and dad did good too). I also tried my hand at making play-doh (and did pretty good).b Tessa and Nate are fans. Nate has also transitioned from his high chair to his booster seat. I think he is enjoying sitting at the table with us.

The Olympics have been great. Nate was sad to see football finish, but I think it was a good replacement. Not sure what we will watch now...

We had lots of fun with the snow that came! yea! (will post those pics separately).

okay, I think I'm going through withdrawal.... where is my snowboard motorcross? ice-dancing? downhill skiing? moguls? sadness, it is over. I tivo'ed almost all of it (other than curling, I can't figure that one out). Olympics during the day, primetime and late night. Now what? oh the sadness... 2 years 4 months until the summer Olympics in London.

FYI, in case I win the lottery or someone wants to get me a super duper gift, I would love to go to the Olympics one day. Maybe we will have to take a vacation to the training center in Colorado (hint hint Ryan). My husband does know me well, though. This is what he got me for Valentine's day!

Biggest Loser workshop

This past weekend I went to my biggest loser workshop. It was down in Buda (about 45 minutes South) and started at 7:30 am. I didn't want to be late, so I was out of the house at 6:30!

It started with a VIP reception with some of the contestants. 2 were from season 2 (before I watched - ryan and pete), one from season 4 (david), 2 from season 7 (sione and filipe), and 3 from season 8 (liz, dena and tracey). The stuck together for a bit, but eventually walked around to meet us fans. A few I wasn't really a fan of during the show, and didn't really want to meet them. I think my perceptions of them were right too... I met sione and filipe - who were great! Just like the show! There were my favorites.

I also met Dena, and we discussed the hardships of the contestants being away from their families.

There were fitness workshops - bootcamp, towelmoves, yogalates, skinny mini, and zumba. There were also cooking, roll away pain and fat myth workshops too. We only got to pick 5, so I did the bootcamp, towelmoves, cooking, skinny mini and roll away pain.

The workshops were good, and there was a variety of people there - from the super fit to those getting started with their fitness goals. I feel that in all I probably worked out hard core for 1 1/2 hours!

The best part was talking to the contestants (most did fit my preconception of them) and the panel they had at lunch. People asked them everything from how long they worked-out a day (4 hours with trainer, 2-4 hours of homework a day), did they do their own cooking (yes), did they get paid ($50/day for earlier seasons, $100/day for later ones), and how they felt about the show (positive how it helped them). Being on the show did affect their families (how they changed their way of eating, etc.) and they did have a hard time returning back home (no clothes fit, dropped by the show - no trainers, $$, etc.).

It was a great day. I returned home just in time to head back out to pick up Tessa from the airport at 5:30. We got home, Ry made a super dinner of white chili, and I fell dead asleep at 8 pm! And didn't get up until 8:30 am on Sunday. Seriously, it has been since way before Nate was born that I have been able to sleep 12 1/2 hours!

Now to figure out how to work out this week!!

20 lbs!

I did it! I have finally lost 20 lbs since I started Weight Watchers last April. About 10 months. The first couple months were great, since I was breast-feeding and all. But through weaning, 2 miscarriages, the holidays, finding time to work out, etc. that last 5 has taken awhile. But I did it! I'm now almost 10 pounds under when I got pregnant with Nate!

To celebrate I'm going to the Biggest Loser workshop tomorrow. Pictures to come! A whole day, alone, to discuss nutrition and fitness, as well as see some of my favorite contestants. I'm sure blessed with a husband who encouraged me to go and will be home with Nate for this day-long event!

19 months...

Well, the teen months are over. And to celebrate that Nate has really started communicating. His current spoke words include mom/ma, dad, football, yes, no, nana, teda (tessa), papa, juice, wawa, tuto (pacifier) and night night. His signed words include all done, more, touchdown, baby, ball, dad, eat, dog, thank you, snow, rain, water, dance/music, sleep, cat, happy, please, tuto, I'm sorry, milk, book, bread, toast, and drink.

We are in amazement of it. He really like to tell us stuff, sometimes using made up words, but often some signing or real words come through.

Football is almost coming to an end. Nate has been watching many a game with me...I hope the Olympics will fill our sports void next month!

It is super cute when he wants to play - he signs "more" in the living room and wants us to chase him. He's even learning how to chase us!

What have we done? We celebrated Ry's birthday, got to meet Thomas' new sister Helen, played with friends - especially our neighbors!

Small Successes - February 11

It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph.

1. Finally put away last week's laundry and have this week's done and put away! Seriously, this is quite a feat for me!!

2. Was able to make some important phone calls regarding financial issues (homeowner stuff and life insurance) that has been on my list for weeks.

3. Met with a friend this week who shared her struggle with infertility with me. Figured out that I don't have to fight with the devil, just need to work at pushing him back. And found a great article on one woman's fertility that truly gave me hope!

The Biggest Loser

For the last few years, I have loved watching the Biggest Loser. I love to see people change their lives, and that of their friends and community.

I got an email from groupon today. The Biggest Loser is coming to Buda for their Work Out Like a Loser workshop and I got a VIP ticket for the price of a regular ticket. A day-long workshop, and chance to meet the contestants, VIP seating, VIP parking, etc. I can't wait!

Today, Ry was my knight. He was getting ready to go to work, and noticed my tire had a flat (I've been having issues for awhile). He pumped it up, took it to Discount Tire, got it fixed (it had 2 nails and a screw in it), came home and THEN went to work! What an amazing guy!! We had only a little playdate scheduled for today, but he knows how these escapes keep my sanity through the day.

Thank you Ryan! You are the best! I am soooo lucky!!

Last December, one of Tessa's friends Abbey went out with us for a photo session. We went to Mayfield Park and had a blast taking a couple hundred pictures (including a few with my brother and Tessa). Here are a few of our favorites! If you want to have photos done, she is your girl! Great price, digital copy, and she's planning to go to UT for photography in the fall. She is also a nanny, so does super well with kids. I think we have our photographer set for the next few years!

Okay, I"m only like 1 month late, right? We had a great Christmas - travelled between Ft. Worth and Waco and even go to have some snow. With Stephen from Chile, and Ted and Mama from New Mexico, our family was all together! Nate sure loved opening presents - I think he's getting the hang of it now! And we saw some friend that we hadn't seen since their wedding several years ago!

You would think this could get easier. But it doesn't. And here I go again, sharing the news that heaven welcomed another beautiful soul. This past week, I miscarried our 5th child. I was early on, but both Ry and I had strong feelings it was a girl. We named her Dawn after my friend who passed away 2 years ago.

At least we know the reason, due to my genetic make-up, my chromosomal abnormality. The doctor and counselor told us that we would have to go through more miscarriages if we desired more children. And we have. But it is still hard.

People look at me. "you only have one child?" they ask. If they only knew. I have a large family in heaven! Only another reason to work harder to get there and be with them some day.

Little Dawn, we will already miss you! At least you are comforted in heaven with your siblings and those miscarried babies of our friends and family.

Marriage Encounter...

3 years ago Ryan and I made a marriage encounter. We went up to Ft. Worth, and spent an entire weekend focusing on us, our marriage, and where we were going. 2007 was quite a year for us already, as I was recovering from my d&c after our 2nd miscarriage in January. So, when my parents offered for us to go as a gift, we readily went in February. It was wonderful. That year had many challenges (friends living with us, our 3rd miscarriage, medical issues, and finally our successful pregnancy with Nate), and I truly believe our time spent that weekend helped prepare us for it.

When I was single, and then when I got married, I had many chores to do. But, at the end of the day, I seemed to get most things done. Now with a toddler, my life has changed.

I wonder if I will ever have a house

without laundry to do,

dishes to wash,

emails to respond to,

blog posts to write,

photos to get printed,

gifts to wrap,

thank-you notes to write,

clutter to remove,

rooms to pick up,

diapers to change,

clothes to put away,

vacuuming,

sweeping,

dusting,

ugh!

I guess it is one of those days, when it seems like my to-do list keeps getting longer and longer and longer. I thought I was finally getting on top of things, doing only 2 loads of laundry (easy enough to put away right), when I realize that I didn't put away the last load, and then Nate falls and gets a bloody lip and bleeds all over my shirt. More laundry!!

I like following FlyLady but even doing that seems overwhelming at times. For those experienced wives and mommas out there, what do you do to keep yourself sane when the list seems endless?

1.5 years (aka, 18 months)

Well, the teen months are drawing to a close. And with them, many changes to our little one. In the last couple weeks, he has started talking, to the amazement of us all. We counted 10 words he can say so far: mama, dada, teda (for Tessa neni), nana, dog, ball, papa, all done, mo (for more) .... and his first word was football!

He's also signing lots more. He knows more, all done, milk, water, tuto (for his pacifier), cheese, noodle, banana, bye, and touchdown.

We've done lots of stuff - Stephen bacsi visited for a week (hadn't seen Nate since the summer) and my cousin Monica came to visit too! We also celebrated Papa's birthday.

We had lots of fun over Christmas, and Nate loved being the center of attention at both grandparents homes. We found out he likes Hershey kisses, and being held by both grandpas. He goes straight for them.

His hand/eye coordination is improving - stacking legos together, putting people in his cars, climbing on the table! He still loves music - especially songs from the Nutcracker. Another fun thing - putting boxes on our head and walking around!

We are finally home, after almost 2 weeks away. Living out of suitcases, no so fun. Seeing our family, though, made it worthwhile.

Seriously, I wrote this on Dec. 3rd...time to post!

What fun we have had this month! 3 of his 4 molars have come in, as well as another tooth on the bottom. How fun to be able to really chew!

We've had lots of playdates, fun times at the park, visiting aunt Christina and uncle Damien, meeting baby animals, and playing the bowl drums!

Nate is a super dancer now, spinning around and even putting his arms over his head. Just give him some music, any music, and he's a happy boy. I wonder where he gets that...

He's still my super helper around the house - swiffering, taking out the laundry, bringing in the groceries. Let's hope he likes doing chores when he gets older.

He loves wearing shoes too! He's up to a size 6, and has a few pairs now. And, unlike his momma, he will wear them around the house all day long!

As I sit here on the computer, checking my emails and blogs, what do I hear downstairs? No, I didn't leave Nate to fend for himself...he's laughing and playing with his aunt and uncle. Tessa neni and Stephen bacsi are playing chase, putting the Avatar in the nativity scene, and dancing to the music. And mom gets a couple minutes of peace. good day. very good day.
